Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has successfully overcome the biggest hurdle after a fallout with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD. JD(U) Supremo won the Trust Vote in Bihar Assembly Today with the support of 131 MLAs out of 243 Legislators in the state.
Nitish Kumar needs 122 MLAs to win the Trust Vote. While JD(U) has 71 MLAs, BJP offered to support it with 53 MLAs. Even BJP Allies (RLSP [2[, LJP[2], HAM[1], 3 Independents voted in favor of Nitish Kumar. Whereas, 108 MLAs voted against JD(U) Chief.
Earlier, RJD termed the alliance of JD(U) and BJP as political opportunism. Lalu Prasad Yadav demanded a secret ballot so that MLAs will not be forced to vote for their party. However, This appeal wasn’t entertained by the Speaker.
Post winning the Trust Vote, Nitish Kumar told corruption in any form shouldn’t be tolerated in an attempt to target Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Camp. ‘Political Parties are meant to serve the people not for indulging in corruption,’ he told.
